College Sports, What Level Can You Play At?

This is a good question that every student athlete needs to ask themselves before trying to get noticed by colleges out of their league. When you have decided that you want to pursue college sports scholarship, the big question is, where can I play? At this time, you, your parents and coaches need to be real honest with each other. You have to determine your athletic ability and academic ability for you to be able to get the most of your recruiting.

I know everyone want to play for a major University or College, but the sad truth is, a very small percent have that ability and dedication. So the big question is, where can you be competitive?

First thing you need to do is look at the physical aspects the player at the college you want to attend. How big are they? How strong are they? How fast are they? What is their handicap and so on? How do you size up to them? If you are 5'9 and 165 pounds and you want to play middle linebacker, you may not be the right fit fo r a Major DI College, but you may be a great fit for a DII or DIII.

The other thing factor in is the academics. Can you handle the standards of the school and play athletics at the same time? Some colleges have very strict guidelines for their academics.

Also keep in mind, when you go from High School Athletics to College Athletics your time on the field, court, pool or what ever will double or may even triple. Most colleges will practice from 20 to 40 hours per week.

So, to close out what I am saying. Think long and hard about the commitment and dedication it will take to play college sports and do your homework on the colleges you have interest in. The most important thing to remember is to be HONEST with yourself. Make sure you spend your time and efforts on colleges that are right for you athletically and academically.
