Students that are about to start college can always benefit from a little extra money for tuition and books. The following list is of a few of the many weird unknown scholarships that are available:
Duct Brand Duct Tape Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest - $3,000
To qualify for this scholarship two participants must show up at their school's prom dressed entirely in outfits and accessories made from duct tape.
The Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship - $5,000
This scholarship is for up to two individuals that promote awareness towards vegetarianism in their community.
American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship - $2,000
After reading an essay on fire sprinkler safety, a test is taken. Each answer on the test that is correct is worthy of an entry into the drawing for the scholarship money. There are a total of ten scholarships awarded each year.
Klingon Language Institute Academic Award: The Kor Memorial Scholarship - $500
With the price of textbooks, this scholarship will be able to help purchase at least a couple of them. It is strictly for students wishing to pursue a language related degree. Don't worry, speaking the Klingon language isn't a requirement.
The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship - $1,000 to $5,000
Any skateboarding senior who has a GPA of 2. 5 is able to put this scholarship towards the cost of whichever college s/he wishes to attend.
The Calgon Take Me Away to College Contest - $1000 to $7,000
This is for female students that are planning on attending college or already enrolled and have a GPA of at least 3. 0.
The Carnegie Mellon Bagpipe Scholarship - $7,000
Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University offers not only discounted kilts for this lucky student, but also a scholarship of $7,000 per year for four years. This is for students wishing to study the bagpipes under a world-renowned instructor at the university.
Billy Barty Founda tion Scholarship for Dwarfism - $1,000
The student who applies for this must have a medical certificate stating that s/he does indeed have dwarfism and must be less than 4' 10".
Tall Clubs International Student Scholarship - $1,000
Students that are under 21 years of age and about to attend their first year of college can apply for this. Female students must be at least 5'10" and males must be at least 6'2".
Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Award - $7,500
This award is offered to those who excel in leadership, community services, academics and sports and also sport a milk mustache. Milk does a lot of good both for your body and wallet isn't it?
American Nudist Research Library Scholarship - $1,000
Any student that has graduated from high school within the last two years and been in a nudist organization for at least three years can apply for this scholarship. A short essay must be written in order to apply.
The Fountainhead - The Ayn Rand Institute Contest - $10,000
A schol arship is given to students winning the writing contest based on The Fountainhead novel written by Ayn Rand.
